The audiometric evaluation consists of pure-tone air and bone conduction testing as well as speech audiometry.  Testing pure tones is done to determine the degree of hearing loss and whether the hearing loss is conductive or sensorineural. Speech audiometry is obtained to evaluate the individual's potential to understand speech clearly. Otoadmittance tests, including tympanometry and acoustic reflex, may be performed to determine middle-ear function.
